About Celestine Bloomfield

Celestine Bloomfield was born and raised in Gary, Indiana and appropriately claims to be a native Hoosier. Her educational pursuits took her to Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, where she received her B.A. in theater. Ms. Bloomfield continued to gather knowledge at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she received her M.S. in library science.

A rich professional career includes positions as a children’s librarian in Cleveland; a media specialist in the Gary Community Schools; a media consultant and a reading consultant for the Indiana Department of Public Instruction; the administrator and librarian for the Karl R. Kalp Teachers Library with the Indianapolis Public Schools; a reading consultant for Scribner and Sons, a division of MacMillan Publishers; an instructor for Indiana University-Purdue University, School of Library and Information Science and most recently retired as the media specialist at Indian Creek Elementary School, M.S.D. Lawrence Township, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Retiring after 37 years as a media specialist to tell stories full time. My next public engagement will be at the Indiana Historical Society on February 15th with national storyteller, Willy Claflin. We will be telling stories to school groups.
